Monetise Open source - A concept

With this I hope to start a series of posts regarding ways on how to monetize open source projects.

Those are just basic ideas as I am not an expert of this field. The main purpose is, of course, to start seriously discussing something that is rarely taken in consideration in blogs and forum of open source: the money.

There are at least two good reasons to make this type of discussion: 1) applying business concepts can boost open source software development; 2) companies are already trying to exploit software open source, it is important to be aware of that.

When a business framework is applied to software open source, the main problem is how to monetize something for which you don't possess ownership. The forthcoming series of posts I will write are mainly related with this issue.
It is also important to point out that the business cannot interfere with the sphere of values that is around the software open source and its communities. But it is my believe that it is still possible to have a profit and to stick to ethic values.
